Sign at Entrance on Route 17 - Just east of Elmira, NYWhether you have an RV, car or are touring on two wheels, you can make camp at this rustic wilderness wonderland, Newtown Battlefield State Park.  While enjoying the tranquility of Newtown Battlefield or hiking the newly refurbished trails, you may meet travelers from all over the United States, Canada and Europe who are making this Upstate New York setting their 'home base' while discovering the treasures of the area.  Enjoy the beauty of the Chemung River Valley.  Wander through the renowned Corning Museum of Glass.  Watch the spectacular Air Shows at the "Wings of Eagles' National Warplane Museum, or NASCAR racing at the track in Watkins Glen.  Visit the home and the grave of famed author Mark Twain in Elmira or tour the wineries of the Seneca or Cayuga Wine Trails! 

An inexpensive and stunning location for Summer Weddings & Receptions, Family Reunions or Company Picnics, Newtown Battlefield is located just 3 miles east of Elmira, New York on Route 17 (Future I-86).  The park is located within one hour of Ithaca, Binghamton, Corning, and Watkins Glen, New York, and minutes from Horseheads, Big Flats, Elmira Heights, Waverly, and Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Park & Camping Facilities

The park is open for the season from Mid-May until Mid-October.
Open hours are from dawn until dark.  (No later than 9:00 PM.)
Quiet hours for campers begin at 10:00 PM.

Park Office Learn History --
Visit the historic Sullivan's Monument with overlook and interpretive displays where you can learn the history of the Revolutionary War in the Chemung River Valley or attend one of the Chemung Valley Living History Center's Re-enactment Events during the summer season..

Non-electric campsite. ...in the woods at one of the 16 non-electric Camp Sites able to accommodate tents, campers & RVs.

 


Rent a Cabin...

The park has five Rustic Wooded Cabins, all with mattresses, electricity, stoves, refrigerators, and flush toilets.  Showers are available nearby.

Hike --
on one of the many Nature Trails within the park and possibly see white-tailed deer, turkey, grouse, rabbits, squirrels, birds, and butterflies, which are only a few common inhabitants of this woodland.  But watch out for the bears!

There are 6 smaller Picnic Pavilions in the park available for reservation.  Pavilions #1 - #5 are in the upper park not far from the monument and overlook.  Pavilion #6 is in the North Park area by the baseball diamond.  Each of these pavilions accommodate 20 - 45 people and may be reserved.

Fireplace Pavilion...

This facility may be rented daily during the season, from 10:00 a.m. until sunset.  The Fireplace Pavilion has 6 picnic tables, an electric outlet and a wood-burning fireplace.  There is a large grill or barbecue (approximately 5' long x 18" deep) outside.  Rest rooms are nearby.  The Fireplace Pavilion will accommodate 50-75 people. Firewood is available to purchase in the park.

Hold your reception at the Lodge --

This beautiful, rustic Lodge was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.  A beautiful setting for a wedding reception, it is available to rent daily during peak season, from 10:00 a.m. to sunset.  The lodge has 23 tables (10 small, 5 large and 8 picnic tables), with estimated seating for 125 people. There is a wood-burning fireplace inside and electric and water available.  Grill or barbecue is outside.  Wood may be purchased in the park for use in the fireplace.  Restrooms are nearby.

Say your wedding vows on the Overlook Deck --

The scenic Overlook Deck in the park offers a commanding view of the Chemung River Valley.  A favorite location for sharing wedding vows, this observation deck may be reserved alone or in conjunction with the Lodge.

If you are interested in the historical aspects of the park, the deck overlooks the actual area where the Battle of Newtown took place.

Interpretive signs on the deck lead you through the Sullivan Expedition and the Battle of Newtown.
