In the fall of 2001 the Chemung Valley Living History Center was deeply saddened by the death of Ben Newton in a tragic car accident. Ben, his parents Tim and Pam, and sister Elley have done an amazing amount of work for all of the events at Newtown.
Ben was an avid Civil War re-enactor who passed his love of history on to all those he met. Ben's family wishes Historical Education to be Ben's memorial and have established a fund for such. The address for this fund could be provided upon request.
Ben was a cherished son, brother and friend and he will be greatly missed. In his honor this event will now be known as The Ben Newton Memorial Civil War Weekend.
